Mean Vascular Pressure Calculator

This is a general-purpose version of the mean-pressure formula that can be applied to either the systemic or pulmonary circulation — a single reference tool covering both MAP and MPAP calculations.

Calculate Mean Pressure (Either Circuit)

mmHg
Systemic or pulmonary systolic.
Enter a value between 5 and 300.
mmHg
Systemic or pulmonary diastolic.
Enter a value between 2 and 200.
Mean Pressure
93.3
mmHg
Mean pressure
Systolic
120.0 mmHg
Diastolic
80.0 mmHg

How It's Calculated

Formula
Mean Pressure = Diastolic + ⅓ (Systolic − Diastolic)

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this the same formula as MAP and MPAP?

Yes — this page exists as a combined reference since the underlying math is identical; only the input values differ between the systemic and pulmonary circulations.

When would I use the generic version?

When you want a single tool that works for either circuit, or you're computing a mean pressure for a vessel that isn't specifically the systemic artery or pulmonary artery.

Why is the mean weighted toward diastolic?

The cardiac cycle spends more time in diastole than systole, so the time-averaged pressure sits closer to the diastolic value.

Does this apply on supplemental readings like an arterial line?

Yes — the same weighted formula estimates the mean from any systolic/diastolic pair, though an arterial line also reports a directly measured mean.
